Happy New Year!

2020 was challenging in many ways, but it was also a year that stretched us, grew us and reminded us of the most important things in life. We are looking forward to 2021 and all that the Lord has for us. We are also excited for teams to return to Chiapas and help bring hope to people in need.

Read below for a recap of 2020 and how you can be a part of some of our projects in 2021!

We hosted our annual women’s and marriage conferences in Tuxtla!

Just before COVID-19 hit, we were able to host a women’s and marriage conference at Torre Fuerte. What a blessing it was to be a part of the ministry in Chiapas and empower women and marriages just before these trying times. At this time, the plans for 2021 are uncertain due to COVID-19, but we are looking forward to the future and the ministry that will continue to take place.

We opened Casa de Esperanza!

In February, we opened Casa de Esperanza. Since opening, we have housed two women and their families. We have been able to provide food and necessities for them as they work through our program. They have been working through Celebrate Recovery and the Esther Initiative, are taking clases such as Bible studies, English, finance and cooking and are on the road to restoration in Christ. We are so thankful that we have been able to help these families as they find hope in Jesus!

We provided medical supplies to people in need!

2020 has been a hard year for all of us, but especially in places where people normally struggle to make ends meet. This year, we were able to provided funding for masks and face shields so the people of Torre Fuerte could bless people in the medical field, as well as members of their church. We love being the hands and feet of Jesus!

We built three churches!

Although COVID-19 changed our plans and limited the amount of work we were able to do, we are still so thankful that we were able to build three churches for communities in need! A huge 'thank you' to Pastor Carlos, Juan Carlos and our team in Chiapas that helped make these projects possible. What a blessing to have a team that fills in for us when we are not able to be there.

We had our first virtual Christmas party!

We celebrated Christmas with 131 of our favorite children and were able to provide new clothes and Christmas presents to each one of them. COVID-19 tried to stop the party from taking place, but thanks again to our team in Chiapas, we were able to make it happen! We are so thankful for the blessing of technology and the ability to celebrate, even from far away.

Hope for the Future

Although we have not been able to be in Mexico physically over the last few months, our efforts to support the people and the mission of our organization have not stopped. Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to continue supporting the local orphanage, Casa Hogar Alegre, the clinic in Tuxtla, the widows at Casa de Esperanza, the local pastor, and we've been able to fund the building of four churches. We are looking forward to returning soon and continuing to be a part of the ministry taking place in Mexico. Our calendar is beginning to fill up with trips for 2021 and we are so excited for teams to be able to return! If your organization or church would like to book at trip for the upcoming year, please contact Matt Payne at mpayne@poguemissions.org.
