2020 has been full of changes as we have walked through some of the most challenging times of our day. Although most of our trips were canceled this year, we have been able to continue financially supporting the ministry taking place thanks to generous donors like you. As we are nearing the end of 2020, we are beginning to make plans to return to Chiapas! You can find more information about this below, as well as an update from our team on the ground, our next "Meet the Team" section about Pastor Jorge Aquino, and our plans to celebrate Christmas with the children at Casa Hogar Alegre.

Prayer Needs: COVID-19 in Chiapas

More people are returning to church as things open up in Chiapas. As a result, Torre Fuerte has moved their church services outside to make space for social distancing. This is a huge step toward returning to normal since the pandemic begin in March. Most places are open now, but you must wear a mask and have your temperature checked to enter. We are glad to see things slowly returning to normal in Chiapas. Please continue to pray with us for those that are still being impacted by the virus in Mexico.

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

“Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Meet the Team: Pastor Jorge Aquino

Meet Pastor Jorge! Pastor Jorge is the pastor of Iglesia Jesus Cristo Sobre la Roca Monte Moriah in San Fernando, Chiapas, Mexico. He has been in ministry for 32 years now and loves to serve his community. Pastor Jorge is also the vice president and area supervisor for Area 1 of Iglesia Jesus Cristo Sobre la Roca and oversees many small churches surrounding San Fernando. He leads these pastors and makes sure they have all the tools necessary to be successful. Many of these smaller churches have been birthed out of Pastor Jorge's church. As his congregation has grown, they have started smaller churches that are closer to their church members since many of these people travel long distances by foot to come to church each week. We are so thankful for Pastor Jorge, his leadership and his commitment to growing the Kingdom. Please pray for Pastor Jorge, his wife, and two daughters as they continue to be a key part of the ministry in Mexico and continue to make Christ's name known.

Hope for the Future

Although we have not been able to be in Mexico physically over the last few months, our efforts to support the people and the mission of our organization have not stopped. Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to continue supporting the local orphanage, Casa Hogar Alegre, the clinic in Tuxtla, as well as the local pastor. We are looking forward to returning soon and continuing to be a part of the ministry taking place in Mexico. Our calendar is beginning to fill up with trips for 2021 and we are so excited for teams to be able to return! If your organization or church would like to book at trip for the upcoming year, please contact Matt Payne at mpayne@poguemissions.org.

Casa Hogar Alegre Christmas Update

For 10 + years Pogue Family Missions has provided clothing and toys to the children of Casa Hogar Alegre Orphanage in Tuxtla, Chiapas, Mexico. Due to COVID-19, we are unable to take the annual trip to Chiapas to shop with and for the children, but that won't stop us from still blessing them this Christmas season, and we want YOU to be a part of it!

We have coordinated with the leadership at Casa Hogar and Torre Fuerte Church to still be able to provide a wonderful Christmas for the children at the orphanage. Your donation will provide the funds necessary to provide clothing, toys, and food for all 125+ children at the orphanage. It costs us on average $200 per child ($20,000-$25,000 total) to provide each child with 2 outfits, 2 pairs of shoes, socks, underwear, toys, a meal, and an ice cream sundae.

The shopping, wrapping, and preparations will be completed in time to have a VIRTUAL celebration with the kids! Join us at the Pogue Barn on Saturday, December 5 from 1:00-3:00 for a pizza & ice cream party, along with a live video Christmas celebration with the children at Casa Hogar, where they will perform their program for us, we will sing for them, and we will watch as their gifts are distributed and opened and all of the excitement that comes with it!
