This year looks a little different for us, but we are so thankful for the continued opportunity to spread the hope we have through Jesus Christ. This past month, we were able to send money to purchase masks for people in need and to start building a few more churches. God is good! Continue reading to hear about our church builds for this year, an update on COVID-19 in Chiapas, and read our next "Meet the Team" section.

Prayer Needs: COVID-19 in Chiapas

The people of Chiapas continue to be effected by COVID-19 in big ways and many of our team members and their families have been directly impacted by the virus. Numbers are still rising, but it is uncertain as to how accurate the numbers are as many sick people have stopped seeking medical attention out of fear or lack of finances. At the beginning of the pandemic, hospitals were overwhelmed and unable to treat patients and many people died as a result. Now, people are fearful to go to hospitals or see doctors. There are more sick people staying home now, even when they desperately need medical attention.

Many businesses remain closed or are closing early, people are wearing masks and doing their best to stay away from the virus, but families are still being impacted. The biggest challenge is the economic state of the country as people are without work and struggle to make ends meet. Times are hard, but we know that the Lord will carry us through it all!

Here are a few ways you can be praying during this time. First, we ask that you would pray for the people that are sick. Many Chiapans lack medical attention due to living in remote locations or their financial state. Our prayers may be the only thing they have to carry them through this time. Additionally, we ask that you pray for the people that find themselves without work or food for their family. Pray that the Lord would provide for their needs and take care of them. Lastly, please pray a special blessing over our team and members of their churches. We ask that the Lord would heal those that are sick, protect those that aren't, and use them to bring hope to their hurting communities.

"Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well." James 5:15

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Meet the Team: Diego Nafate

Meet Diego! Diego is hard working, a great leader, and knows the in's and out's of every church build. Most of our teams normally see him sitting on the top of a church building welding the roof together like he is in the picture below. Diego is married, has two beautiful daughters and is a member of Torre Fuerte in Tuxtla. Diego and some of our other team members are a part of the process of each church build from beginning to end. They transport materials to the churches, make all of the windows and doors and help get the building ready for teams to come in and paint. In addition to building churches, he also helps with many other projects around Torre Fuerte. Diego has been a part of our team for many years now and we are so thankful for his leadership and knowledge that he brings to the table.

Be sure to give Diego a high-five and tell him "thank you" next time you see him in Chiapas!

Let's Keep Building!

As 2019 came to a close, we filled our calendar with 9 church builds for 2020. Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel all of our team trips for this year and, up until recently, had only been able to finance one of these church builds. Thanks to your generous donations over the past few weeks, we are now able to fund 3 more church builds! We are so thankful for people like you that are making this possible. We would love to finish out our commitment for 2020 and provide church buildings to these pastors and congregations that have been fervently praying for them! Would you prayerfully consider donating to help provide these miracles to the communities in Chiapas?

To build the remaining 5 churches, we need to raise an additional $65,000.
